Barry Du Bois is an incredible human. You may know him from the TV show ‘The Living Room’. That’s where I grew my affection for this kind, warm soul of a man.
Then I saw him on The Panel a while ago and it stuck with me. It was an incredible candid, raw and moving interview. Barry has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and it’s not curable. This is not the first time he has faced cancer either. He knows he is dying. He points out that it’s inevitable for all of us True that.
What I loved about this interview, and this man, is that he was vulnerable, not hiding from the truth showing tears and his emotional frailty with no shame. But his attitude was amazing. He’s not in denial that it’s happening. He’s not pretending a cure will come along and save him. Hope is different. He’s as Brene Brown would say; ‘in the arena’. Facing down his enemy.
And he’s ‘Rising Strong’. He’s made a decision on how he wants to live while being raw and honest with himself. He says, and this is just the best one liner EVER!;
There is no dividend in negativity. Let me repeat that. There is NO DIVIDEND in negativity.
With over 85% of our thoughts per day being negative we are wired to see gaps. So how do we change that pattern? Do it before you know you’re leaving this world. And even if you are.
I reckon anyone who is facing their worst fear and chooses courage and attitude based in love not fear is someone we should listen to. He’s written a book with one of his best mates Miguel Maestre. It’s called ‘Life Force’. I haven’t read it yet but I know it will be game changing.
What do you need to stare down and chose a better response to?
