Don’t some people just rub you up the wrong way?! It’s just hard being around them or you feel like you need to take deep breaths to get through. It may be people you work with, have friendships with, usually there’s a family member or two thrown in there too right?! Maybe you’re in a relationship with someone you feel like you need to put up with.
I must confess there are lots of times where I am tolerating my children. There are friends that I tolerate their behaviour, or lack of. And then there are times when I don’t. I can’t say I deal with the situations in a respectful, easy going, compassionate way either.
I was listening to one of Jay Shetty’s podcasts; On Purpose (Jay is the most popular podcast in the world right now and has over 20 million followers). He was sharing a story of when he was living in the Monastery learning to become a Monk. Someone was talking to one of the teachers about a frustration he was having with a family member. He was really ripping into his family member and asked his teacher what he should do. The teacher’s response was gold. It was brief and profound. Very Monkist. He said;
“Tolerate them like they tolerate you”.
How good is that?! How many people in our world do we blame, resent, eye roll at, get frustrated by? And how many do you think tolerate you? Whoa! I love that. I am going to be super conscious of this. Are you?
